Brandenburg curves across the chest: this men's windbreaker carries the state name in old German script with OSTDEUTSCHLAND set below. The coat itself is light and undemanding – hood up, zip closed, and the wind that sweeps the flat country bothers its wearer far less.

What it is built from

The outside is 100 per cent nylon and the lining 100 per cent polyester. Outwardly the jacket repels water. Light rain is covered by that; a raincoat is not replaced by it.

The Brandenburg wordmark

The name is set in a shallow arc, with OSTDEUTSCHLAND straight beneath it, smaller and in bold block capitals. The design is placed to the left on the chest. Printed red on black/red, white on the other two colours. Finishing happens in Germany.

Available versions

The options run black, black/red and black/white, each one from S to 5XL. Two-colour models show their pull tapes, zips and hood interiors in red or white.

Which days it suits

A windbreaker replaces neither a jumper nor a raincoat; it pushes in between them. The nylon case takes the edge off the wind and the polyester lining runs smooth over the sleeve beneath. In spring that is enough over a long-sleeved shirt, in autumn over a hoodie. The pockets at the side close so nothing drops out at a run, and the cords hold the hood in place even in gusts.
