Sachsen in blackletter on a light hooded shell

Sachsen goes on the front, in broken type, with OSTDEUTSCHLAND small and letter-spaced underneath. No more than that is needed to say where this jacket belongs. What surrounds the lettering is a lightweight men's coat with a hood, for days when the wind is the nuisance rather than the temperature.

Fabric

The shell is nylon, 100 per cent; behind it sits a lining that is wholly polyester. Water-repellent is listed as the function of the outer face, and it is not supposed to stand in for a raincoat.

The lettering

Two lines, left of the chest: Sachsen on top in blackletter with upper and lower case, beneath it and much smaller OSTDEUTSCHLAND in spaced capitals. No crest, no map, no extra symbol. On the black/red version the print is red.

Colour, size, care

Black, black/red or black/white make up the choice, each running S to 5XL. The chart gives an S a total length of 70 cm over a 52 cm chest, and for 5XL 81 cm with 77.5 cm across. Wash to 30 °C inside out, no dry cleaning, no dryer, and iron around the print.

The front zip runs the whole way, which makes it easier to get into and gives ventilation when wanted. Phone, keys and wallet find room in the slip pockets at the hip. On the two-colour versions the cords, pullers and hood interior take up the second shade, while the all-black one stays dark throughout. Eight steps make up the regular cut, beginning at S.
