Coded chest print for those in the know

01000001, 01000011, 01000001, 01000010: four rows of ones and zeros sit one under the other across the chest in a plain machine face. Every row is a byte, and anybody with an ASCII table to hand turns it into four capital letters. Everyone else sees a programmer's shirt.

A message in disguise

That is where the joke lies: discreet and unambiguous at the same time. At the office, at university or on the train it barely registers; on the terraces anyone willing to do the arithmetic gets it. The four rows share a length and form a compact block centred on the chest.

White on seven shades

The shirt comes in brown, black, burgundy, kelly green, red, navy and royal blue. Whichever one is chosen, the code is printed white.

Large widths in four shades only

The run carries on to 5XL in navy and red, in black and in royal blue. Burgundy, kelly green and brown stop at 3XL, which is worth bearing in mind when picking a colour. The ladder therefore spans S through 5XL, though not in every combination.

About the cloth

Cotton jersey with a surface weight of 185 g/m², knitted tubular and consequently without side seams. The straight regular fit falls neither close nor loose. Machine wash runs at 30 °C.
