Schlager shirt for the German summer hit of 2022

Through the summer of 2022 a Schlager tune about a brothel madam called Layla played everywhere in Germany, and hardly a pub table was left without an opinion on it. This shirt treats the whole business lightly: LAYLA in pink characters, boxed by a frame with rounded corners, and beneath it the three comparatives schöner, jünger, geiler in white handwriting.

Pink as the only colour

Nothing apart from the pink lettering and its frame carries colour; the line underneath stays white. You therefore read the name first and the three comparatives second, which is exactly the order the joke needs.

Five fabric shades

The catalogue photograph shows the black version. Alongside it sit navy and red, both reaching 5XL as black does, plus burgundy and brown up to 3XL. The pink stays identical on all five and separates most sharply from the dark tones.

A present for Schlager fans

It fits into the suitcase for Mallorca, into the Schlager night at the clubhouse, and into the hands of anyone who gets louder when the chorus comes round. Nobody needs the reference explained.

Shirt and care

The jersey is circular-knitted, so that neither flank carries a seam, and the fingers read its 185 g/m² as medium rather than thin, a character that washing at 30 °C does nothing to spoil. The cut runs straight and the round neckline is bound with rib knit.
