Spinach on the chest, a statement on the back

The joke starts small. At the height of the left chest sits a tin of spinach just opened, green leaves spilling out of it, the sailor's well-known source of strength. Nothing else happens at the front. Anyone who walks past gets the rest: STAY STRONG runs across the shoulders in large characters outlined in green, with POPEYE in white below. Front and back only make the gag together, which sets the garment apart from plain chest prints.

Material and widths

The cloth is cotton throughout; worked as a jersey it reaches a surface weight of 160 grams. That weight lands midway in the range: no thin summer shirt, but nothing heavy enough to be a nuisance when it is warm either. The neck opening is bound round and the short sleeves finish straight. Five widths can be chosen, from S through to XXL.

Occasions

For training, for the street, or for an evening with more on offer than vegetables out of a tin. The lettering on the back makes the shirt useful in the gym as well, where people see themselves from behind more often than from the front. Since both sides carry print, go carefully with the iron: turn the cloth, keep the heat low, and do not run over the characters at all.
