The artwork is put together the way a men's barber would hang his board by the harbour: POPEYE'S arches across the top in sturdy black letters, the head with its pipe occupies the middle, and the additions Est. and 1929 stand to the left and right of it. A curved banner underneath holds the words BARBER SHOP. Everything prints in a single black on the grey ground, legible and without any gradient.

Weight of cloth and make-up

The face fabric blends 65% cotton with 35% polyester and is worked as brushed fleece at 250 g per square metre, which leaves the inside raised. That weight wears noticeably warmer than a sweatshirt in thin jersey. A drawcord takes in the hood, and a kangaroo pocket runs across the front for hands and a phone. The sizes stocked are S, M, L and XL.

Day to day

Over a t-shirt, under a jacket, or on its own once autumn turns mild. Grey is the quieter ground of the two parts: the print keeps its legibility while the sweatshirt itself makes no fuss. Brushed goods are usually turned inside out and washed cool, and a line is the gentler way to dry them. Anyone preferring short sleeves will find the same barbershop artwork on a t-shirt.
