Knitted cotton hood with a single face aperture

This MIL-TEC hood is the plain form of the balaclava: black cotton with one aperture only, leaving the whole face clear. Downwards it has been kept extra long, which carries it well past the throat and the nape.

One aperture instead of three

Three-hole patterns free the eyes and mouth separately and therefore lie close against the face. Here the entire face area is cut away instead, so the fabric meets the head only around the edge of the opening. That takes pressure off the nose and cheeks.

Knitted cotton

The fabric is a knitted cotton jersey, cotton throughout. Knitted means it yields in every direction and settles around the shape of a head. One size is supplied, and the stretch of the knit is what lets it suit differing head shapes.

On its own or underneath

Wear the hood by itself, or as a thin layer beneath a helmet, a cap or a hood. Because it continues over throat and nape, it stands in for a scarf at the same time and closes the gap between collar and headwear.
