Here the four letters carry dots between them, the way they appear on walls and junction boxes. They are set in stencil type and fill the centre of the front panel. Immediately below runs a narrow line in capitals that spells the abbreviation out in full. Anybody who has to ask what is meant has not been looking.

Three fabrics, one print

Plain black, Midnight Camo or Jungle Camo: the white print sits in the same place on each of the three. The grey night pattern turns out almost as dark as the black cloth, while the woodland pattern looks markedly lighter and livelier.

Two compartments for the day out

The big one takes whatever would otherwise bulge in a trouser pocket. The flat zipped pocket on the back panel rests against the body and suits loose change or a ticket.

Weave, capacity, webbing

Woven from polyester at 600 denier, both compartments fitted with zips: the body comes to a width of 38, a height of 14 and a depth of 8 centimetres, which works out at some 2.5 litres. The webbing adjusts in length, so the bag can ride on the hip or sit diagonally across the upper body. That is enough for everyday odds and ends and not enough for the weekly shop.
