Arguments beside the coals cost time, so the rules go straight onto the bib. Meine, German for my, comes first in script, followed by Grillgesetze, the laws of grilling, in tall block capitals. The four clauses read: hands off the grill, hands off the meat, hands off the beer, and I am not grilling vegetables.

Below the rules lie a barbecue fork, a steak over flames and a turner in a row. Whoever wears this has nothing left to explain.

Colours

Grey, white, royal blue, red, black or navy. On five of the six tones the text appears in white, and on the white version alone in black.

Make-up

Twill at 170 g/m², mixed 65 to 35 from polyester and cotton on the coloured versions and 80 to 20 on the black one. Add to that a neck loop, two ties of 78 cm and a one-size cut 67 centimetres wide by 78 centimetres long. Washing is done at 30 °C.

How the clauses are set

All four sentences are numbered, stand one below the other and each ends with an exclamation mark. A horizontal barbecue fork lies to the left and to the right of the opening word. Beneath the final line the cutlery turns up a second time, now with the steak between the two pieces.

While grilling and afterwards

The bib absorbs the spatters of fat and marinade that land beside the rack. It suits adults regardless of clothing size or gender, and the piece weighs roughly 125 grams. As a present it travels well to Father's Day, to a birthday and to the festive season, colleagues with their own grilling circle included.
